We've been involved with the building industry for over 20 years (as professional after construction cleaners). Since we are usually in after all the other trades have left, this also means we get to see the finished project along with all the defects (we usually provide the builder with a full list so we don't get blamed later down the track).

In my experience, when it comes to build quality, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!

The best builders are the ones which usually charge a little bit more even though it may mean losing the job to a cheaper builder as it means they can also utilize their best and more expensive tradespeople (good trades are usually in high demand and command a fair price). They know how to budget extra time spent on trade defects or unforeseen circumstances.

The bad builders quote low so need to shop around to find the cheapest tradespeople to make the project viable for themselves. They will abandon ship if the cost to repair defects is above the amount of the final payment.

Thanks for the feedback - I totally agree and unfortunately in this instance we actually chose a builder who was more expensive thinking exactly as you have noted in your response here and it didn't turn out that way.

We live by that saying 'what goes around, comes around' - we just don't hope that others suffer the same outcome as we have as it becomes very frustrating, time consuming and costly.

All the best!
