Houses are full of small nooks and hidden areas that often don't see the light of day for decades - or even centuries. Once something's built (or concealed in a building) it'll often stay there, waiting to be discovered - for better or worse - by a curious renovator some time down the track.
This week's feature post is a list of some of the more remarkable things people have unearthed during their renovations. Found any buried treasure of your own during renovations? Come and tell us about it...

A lot of people tend to 'set and forget' our mortgages, and just coast along without really paying much attention to how changes to rates might be opening up new opportunities to save a bit of money. Easy to overlook the significant difference that even a fraction of a percentage change can make on a mortgage worth several hundreds of thousands of dollars - but absolutely worth doing if you haven't given it any thought in a while!
Likewise, if you're looking to renovate but don't have the funds, refinancing could be a smart way to pay for it...

Warm weather's finally arrived (with a vengeance) in many parts of Australia, and for those of us who are unlucky enough to live in a house that hasn't been designed first and foremost with energy efficiency in mind, it's also a sweaty reminder of how high up the list renovations for efficiency and comfort really should be. Thankfully, there's plenty you can do to drag your house into the 21st century...
