There looks set to be a renovation boom in Australia as record numbers of homes built in the 1980s become ready for renovation works. Since these homes are generally well-built, with good foundations and thoughtful layouts, the improvements needed are not as drastic as older homes, meaning a re-model won't cost you a fortune.
This edition we look at some of the best before and after renovations of 80s homes, as well as articles that provide inspiration for cost-effective re-vamps.
Enjoy!

A recent article on cats attacking birds, shows an alarming mortality rate for native and exoctic species. While some cats are quite happy to be an indoor moggy, there are some with a more adventurous spirit. Cat enclosures for outside give a cat space to run and jump and stretch their legs without risk to their own safety (eg cars) or attacking the wildlife.

This weekend, is Fathers' Day.
A time for Dad to have brekkie in bed and tinker in the garage. That doesn't necessarily mean the garage should be transformed into the latest style of Man Cave with all the gadgets - although that appeals to some. Instead, let's celebrate the garage for what it is - a place to put the car, trailer, bikes and camping gear. It's likely to have wall shelving for all the tools and a workbench with a bench grinder. Simple stuff to keep Dad occupied for the day, even if it is just to fix the billy cart.

If you are in regions of Australia where it gets a bit chilly through the winter months but heading to the ski fields isn't an option this weekend (although it is coming into the best time for snow), curling up by the fire might be the next best option.
Pop on your Ugg boots and watch a classic like The Eiger Sanction or a bit more recently giggling with Ben Mendelsohn at base camp in Vertical Limit. Make a hot chocolate and pop on the crock pot for soup and the weekend is done.
Keep warm!

Harmony between the old and the new, whether it be the building facade or the interior is a key function in creating a stunning renovation.
The old State Savings Bank has been given a new lease of life, with stunning natural spotted gum timber plywood panelling courtesy of Big River Group.
The project earned awards from the Building Designers Association of Victoria 2017. We have drawn inspiration from the home to highlight the best in windows and light fittings.
Let there be light!
