townhouse with pergola attached

To be able to sell my property, do I need council approval for an existing pergola attached to my townhouse? I live in Carina and there are 3 townhouses on the block with body corporate.

Hi,

Thanks for your question and sorry for the late response.

We consulted with PGD Building Group who advised that if a pergola is attached to an existing building then a permit is usually required, which means you would need council approval. Under the Building Interim Regulations 2017, construction of a pergola (unroofed) associated with any other building must have a building permit.

It would be best to double check with the Brisbane City Council though.

We hope this helps!

The BUILD team.
