Build

Dear Home Building Enthusiast,

Firstly, the BUILD team would like to wish all our readers a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The team recently attended the High Performance Homes seminar to learn about passive design so this edition is all about how you can keep your house cool this summer (and heated in winter), while also reducing energy consumption and energy bills.

Passive design takes into account the local climate and site conditions, and focuses on renewable sources of energy, such as the sun and wind, to provide heating, cooling and ventilation.

The best part is that a passive home looks exactly the same as any other home, it’s just much more environmentally-friendly. Don’t believe us? Check out the photos below!

Enjoy!

Good house and window orientation increases the energy efficiency of a home, making it more comfortable to live in and cheaper to run. The most important orientation aspect to consider is the direction your house and windows face and their solar access.
