Weve got solar so the electricity savings aren't a big deal, but I was sold on the fact that they'll last so long. easily justifies the cost on its own:

Rated life of 50,000 hours and you use them four hours a day:

50,000 / 4 hours a day / 365 days = 34 years before you have to replace them!

If you don't have solar then you can also factor in the fact that they use way less energy (1/3rd to 1/5th if you're talking 35W or 50W halogen downlight replacements). Its a no brainer, they are definitely worth the cost in my opinion.

Yeah, it absolutely is. According to my electrician from Sydney (I'm from Sydney), LED lights are incredibly useful and they're worth every penny. The money you'll save on it, mate, it's worth it.

Halogen lights will disappear from Australia within two years. The ban is to come into effect from September 2020 but the bulbs could start disappearing from retail stores in as little as 12 months, according to the industry’s peak body, Lighting Council Australia.

Good quality LED light bulbs last five to 15 times longer than halogen lamps and at most will consume one-quarter of the energy to produce the same light output.

Most incandescent lights, which waste 90% of their energy produced as heat, were phased out between 2009 and 2012.

LED lighting consumes less energy and generates limited heat.

Hey Arthur,

Very good question! My answer is yes. If you search, you will see that LED is energy efficient and it's upto 85% cost effective. Also, it's longevity is noticeable too. For your concern, here are some price i found on net:

$7.43 for a 5.3W LED (GU10, 240V)

$11.95 for a 5.5W LED (MR16, 12V)

$12 to $18 for a 10W LED

It's really worth.
