Home Renovation - 5 Things You Might Have Overlooked

14 June 2017

If you’re renovating your home, you’ve probably focused the most on items that have the most visual effect on your home. We are talking about things such as walls, kitchen cabinets, doors etc. Still, there are a couple of things you might have overlooked that are going to play a huge role in how successful your renovation is going to be. That being said, we’ve come up with a list of 5 things that often get overlooked and might just be what you need to focus more on in order to make your renovation pay off, both in terms of practicality and design.

Light switches

If all of your light switches are working properly, chances are you haven’t even thought about getting new ones for your home. Still, this is something you should definitely think about doing since a new set of light switches can make almost any place feel fresh. Even though there’s nothing wrong with traditional switches, you might want to think about going for something different. For example, brass light switches are big trend today, since they can be used to add a touch of class to a room. Also, there are glass switches which are a perfect pick for modern homes.

Grout color

Another often overlooked item during renovation is grout color. If you’re installing new tile in your bathroom or kitchen, you might have focused too much on choosing the perfect tile and forgot about the grout. Try to make sure this isn’t the case, because the right grout color can make a huge difference when it comes to the looks of just any space. The new grout you choose for your home, can either match the color of your tile or come in neutral color that will go well with your tile. Just bear in mind that grout tends to get stained over time.

Hallways storage space

You probably know how hard it can be to find enough storage space for keeping all of the stuff you have lying around your home. And if you’re like other homeowner, chances are you haven’t thought about introducing some storage space to your hallways. These are often left empty, even though they tend to have enough space for a storage unit. So, if you don’t know where you’re going to keep all of your stuff, adding some storage space to the hallways in your home might just be a perfect idea.

Garage space

No matter what kind of work you did around your home, you probably haven’t changed anything about your garage storage space. Still, you should always try to update this area and have it match the style of the rest of your home. The first thing to do when updating your garage storage space is to see if there’s anything you no longer need and have them thrown away. For example, if you live in Australia, you can have rubbish removal experts from Sydney deal with removing certain type of materials like glass or metals.

Benchtop material

When it comes to kitchen renovating, many people forget how important it is choose the tight benchtop material. This is especially the case because they focus too much of the way their kitchen looks and not on how practical it is. So, if you’re getting new benchtop for your home, you should definitely put some effort into choosing the right material for your kitchen. Marble is always a good option, but it tends to react poorly to acidity and can easily etch. Of course, no material is absolutely perfect, so you should be aware of the weaknesses and limitations of the one you go for.

Chances are you’ve overlooked some of these things during your renovation project. If you did, now it’s a perfect time to tackle it again and deal with the things you’ve overlooked.
