Hey Philip,

Sorry for the late reply. We normally ask people to put these sorts of questions through our 'ask an expert' feature - just a bit easier. We didn't know the answer to this but asked Gary Busbridge, who's the Standardisation Manager for Clipsal. Here's his response:

[C]orrect, The Wiring Rules does only reference the fixed plumbing connection. This is because the rules cannot determine the type of shower head, be it fixed or portable. Plumbing connections can also be changed over the life of the installation.
Hence no commitment on portable shower heads.
The essence is to comply at the fixed plumbing connection and disregard the portable shower head as per the Rules and figures.

Regards,
Gary Busbridge

Hope that helps - if you need more detail, you can always give your state building or electrical authority a ring - they're usually up to speed on these kinds of things too.

Hello Gary!

Thanks very much for making the effort to get an answer. Early this week I rang Energy Safety. They put me through to Western Power Inspectors, who gave me the same interpretation as you, so thank you very much!!!!!!!!!

Now on with the job....

Philip
