Comparing quotes

I think it depends on what you're having done. For a small repair job a few quotes would probably do, but if it was something bigger I think I'd definitely chase more... I think everyone gets a bit nervous when it comes to spending lots of money ;)

I'd say look for licenses, insurance, well-written itemisted stuff. Could just be me but I'd also factor in the person's character... sometimes worth paying more for someone that's not going to be a pain to deal with with.

http://www.build.com.au/how-find-right-tradies

I would always go for three quotes ... but it depends on the size of the job.

If its relatively minor, I wouldn't worry that much about it. But if it is a significant piece of work, defintely compare quotes.

Things I would look for could include:

price

qualifications

comparable reference projects

references (preferably from someone you know)

timeliness (i.e can they accomodate the timeframe you are after)

I know I probably haven't told you anything you didn't already know, but I hope it helps.
