Hi ClintF,

The costs of building approvals vary from state to state and even council to council. The best way is to look up a private building certifier in your area, give him a call and get them to email you a list of requirements needed for approval and at what stages inspections are required and what the overall cost to you would be to you including inspections.

We just finished a 3 bedroom granny flat in Maroochy Shire Qld. and the council fees were around $1,600 but there will be other costs like a site soil report ,slab or footing engineering, energy efficiency certificate, site plan , drafting etc.

Rough budget estimation to allow around $3,000 to $3,500.

Hope this helps.

Col Watt

Panelock Building Solutions
