I put in a Sony home theatre system and I've never looked back. I also purchased a Sony playstation (which I use as my bluray player also) and the game play with the surround sound is great My only recommendation would be to go for the slightly better system - the sound difference is noticeable (IMO)

I also put in a great Samsung 60" screen which has an amazing picture.

Ah great, what made you choose the Sony system Stew? Did you look at any others? And do you happen to remember what model it was?

Cheers, Xave

I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but I would suggest looking at a few other systems. What type of budget do you have?

Sony make good systems, but they're what is known as 'home theatre in a box' solutions. They're fine for most homes, especially for people who don't really care that much about audio output and just want something that works and sounds better than the speakers in their TVs, but for a few more bikkies you can get a solution offers a lot more.

I would suggest looking at the following brands: Whatmough, Jamo, KEF and Canton. If you don't want to have bulky speakers in your room and would prefer in-walls, I strongly recommend Sonance.

If money is no object, then you have to check out Kyron Audio - a local company based in Bacchus Marsh. In fact, even if $70k for a pair of speakers is outside your budget, you should still check it out...

04:06 30-06-2014 - Paul Skelton
if $70k for a pair of speakers is outside your budget

Jeepers ... so the choice is a pair of speakers (not even surround sound) or a good deposit on a house. Hmmm, so much to think about and consider.

My Sony system works really well. It may not be perfect sound quality, but for watching a movie with surround sound it works really nicely.

I do agree that KEF make great speakers, but its the next level up from wher I am currently.

Hi Guys,

My $0.02 worth... In early 2000 I was working in Dubai and had the ability to listen to some really, really seriously expensive sound systems. In the end I bought a Yamaha AMP with an AC3 decoder built in - for movies and some Mission speakers, Retail in AUD was $11K, I paid about $5K from memory.

It was only 5.1 so doesn't have a rear centre which would be nice with BluRay. I had the Matrix peaking at over 100dB on the digital SPL meter I used to set it up at home, the Missions were all 'matched' and they have a nice warm sound, I found others were 'clearer' but tended to be a bit 'sharp' for my taste. So still happy over 17 years later but I'd be looking at where the industry has moved on in almost 20 years to hear how much better good systems would compare now.

I was also thinking about sound attenuation if anyone is thinking about that?

Thanks

Andrew

Building and Pest Inspections Albury Wodonga

Though it's an o;d post, yet i want to share my experience with my newly bought Sony HT-RT3 sound system. I bought it on the july 16th and still now i am enjoying a lot by watching movies and playing games with extendable sounds. Crispy and spurcly sound quality is just awesome. Moreover, I like to use the NFC much more than playing with DVD. As i am a music lover and picked up all favourite songs on my IOS!!

Overall sound quality is perfect for me, perhaps i am not sure what others things!
