Butler's pantries

Butler's pantries
A butler's pantry will give you somewhere to store your cutlery and crockery, and to put the finishing touches on meals if necessary.

What is a butler's pantry?

A butler’s pantry is something of a mini-kitchen. It's a separate room, used exclusively to store serving items and is usually located in the transitional spaces between the kitchen and dining area. These areas, as the name suggests, are a throwback to more formal times when a household's servants would use the butlers' pantry to care for cutlery and crockery, and to prepare food and drink for service.

A butler’s pantry, like your kitchen, contains countertops and storage areas. Some people even put refrigerators and dishwashers in these areas.

When is a butler's pantry the best choice?

If you're big on parties or entertaining and you have the budget and space, then a butler’s pantry may just be what you require. Keep in mind that a butler's pantry is essentially an extra room, so it's unlikely to be a sensible choice in smaller households. For busier kitchens, it may help to separate out dish duties, reducing clutter in much needed work areas.

Butlers pantries are also a particularly good idea for anyone running a bed and breakfast.
